Passive vs. active waiting

At the root of waiting on Jesus’ return lays a promise.

A promise that something was pledged or committed to us long ago before we ever drew breath. I have found there are two ways to wait: Passive waiting or Active waiting. You may have found others and that’s fine. God has made and will make promises to us to which we know He keeps his promises. What would it look like to actively wait on the Lord, if what we are doing now is passive?

Consider how we are actively waiting until God’s promises come true compared to biblical testimonials of ancient people who waited lifetimes for God’s promises to come to fulfillment. Oftentimes, it wasn’t until generations literally had passed away before God’s promises held true and yet, they still came true!

That means people could have gone a lifetime without ever seeing or hearing the prophecies come true. They likely never had the luxury of seeing something come to pass before their death as we now have (arguably we know more about the Bible than ever before yet people seemingly aren’t hungry for it like they used to be) and would have had to go to their graves with nothing more than their faith that it would come to pass possibly for their grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Talk about FAITH. Not one prophecy uttered in the Bible has failed to come to pass.

When it comes to Jesus, it seems like some of us Christians are so deep in passive waiting, that it’s hard to tell us apart from non-believers. It is my desire we will shift into active waiting. It’s time to put our faith into action.

PRAYER of RESURRECTION

Lord, Jesus, I need you. I want you. I’m sorry for my sins. Please, wash my sins away with the blood of Christ. I welcome your Holy Spirit into my heart. As best I know how I give you my life. Use me as a Watchman and give me your wisdom. May your will for my life be revealed through the Holy Spirit. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the King of Glory. Amen.
