removing toxic soil in our life

When my-ex wife and I moved into our house this front planter was often used to dump paint or paint thinner and so there were a lot of toxins that had built up in the soil. If you tried to plant anything it just killed it off. The only way to make something grow here again is to excavate the toxic soil and replace it with fresh new soil. Otherwise, anything trying to take root would become toxic and slowly die.

Once we decide to step into a new relationship with the Holy Spirit, sometimes in our excitement of being caught up in the moment we forget that our past life was like that toxic soil.

It was like that toxic soil because every time we try to plant the Holy Spirit’s seeds in it, for some reason, it never really took root. The plants look good at first but rapidly over the following days or weeks the plant will ultimately die with wither.

I think many people fail to realize the Holy Spirit‘s job is to remove the toxic soil of our past life and make sure that no stone is left untouched. Otherwise, a contaminated plot of soil will not withstand the long season and provide a good crop. It will likely struggle.

When we dedicate or re-dedicate our life to Christ, we need to prepare our hearts to welcome the Holy Spirit to do His job and ask Him to help reveal to us the things that may be toxic in our life, so we can remove the source — not just the superficial issue. Then we allow the Holy Spirit to replenish us with fresh, nutrient-dense soil perfect for harvesting an abundant crop for the Kingdom.

Go Forth. Keep Watch!
