What is a watchman?

A watchman serves as a bridge connecting the ancient world with the modern era. He embodies a fusion of ancient warrior principles and the teachings of Jesus Christ, committing to a lifelong journey of self-improvement through the study of history, scripture, and comprehensive personal, physical, and spiritual preparation.

How does one strive to become a Watchman? We've identified five fundamental components that, when integrated into one's daily life, set them on the path to a deeper comprehension of what it means to be a Biblical Watchman for The Kingdom:

  1. Cultivate and safeguard the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

  2. Dedicate oneself to a lifelong exploration of scripture and history.

  3. Embrace discipline and discipleship as guiding principles.

  4. Pursue heightened awareness of both The Holy Spirit and one's own self.

  5. Lead through action, emphasizing deeds over words."

Ezekiel 33:1-9

Ezekiel Is Israel's Watchman” (ESV)

The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their Watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 But if the Watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the Watchman's hand.

7 “So you, son of man, I have made a Watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 If I say to the wicked, Oh wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

Isaiah 21:3-16

“Fallen, Fallen is Babylon“ (ESV)

Therefore my loins are filled with anguish; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman in labor; I am bowed down so that I cannot hear; I am dismayed so that I cannot see. 4 My heart staggers; horror has appalled me; the twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling. 5 They prepare the table, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink. Arise, O princes; oil the shield! 6 For thus the Lord said to me: “Go, set a Watchman; let him announce what he sees. 7 When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, let him listen diligently, very diligently.” 8 Then he who saw cried out: “Upon a watchtower, I stand, O Lord, continually by day, and at my post, I am stationed whole nights. 9 And behold, here come riders, horsemen in pairs!” And he answered, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the carved images of her gods he has shattered to the ground.” 10 O my threshed and winnowed one, what I have heard from the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, I announce to you. 11 The oracle concerning Dumah.

One is calling to me from Seir, “Watchman, what time of the night? Watchman, what time of the night?” 12 The Watchman says: “Morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again.” 13 The oracle concerning Arabia.

In the thickets in Arabia, you will lodge, O caravans of Dedanites. 14 To the thirsty bring water; meet the fugitive with bread, O inhabitants of the land of Tema. 15 For they have fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the press of battle.

Isaiah 62:6-12

“Zion’s Coming Salvation” (ESV)

6 On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set Watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, 7 and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. 8 The Lord has sworn by his right hand and by his mighty arm: "I will not again give your grain to be food for your enemies, and foreigners shall not drink your wine for which you have labored; 9 but those who garner it shall eat it and praise the Lord, and those who gather it shall drink it in the courts of my sanctuary."

[Instructions for the Watchman]

10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples. 11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, "Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him." 12 And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.
