How Much Do We Really Love Our Neighbor?

How great is our love? Christians keep talking about how not everyone is called into ministry... that all we need to do is love our neighbor and love God, but I think we have had a disconnect between what it means to actually love God and love our neighbor.

When we read of the men who lowered their crippled friend through the roof in Peter’s house because they couldn’t get him to close enough to Jesus in the crowded house in Mark 2. Jesus saw their FAITH and the incredible LOVE they had for their friend who was crippled, he was probably amazed by their FAITH and their dedication to SAVING just ONE FRIEND.

When people think about love, I think they see love as only an outward expression — just being kind and loving and gentle with our neighbor. But I think we’ve lost what it means to have a deep and complete love... love that means doing anything you possibly can to make sure the ones you care for meet Jesus.

We say we love our neighbor... but do we love our neighbor enough to make sure they meet Jesus? Do we love God enough that we have complete faith in God to save others?

These men had so much love for Jesus and so much love for their neighbor that they tore up Peter’s roof, lowered a full-grown man on a stretcher and rope down into a crowd just so Jesus could save their friend. That is true love, deep love, courageous love, Christ-like love.

If we truly love our neighbor we will do anything, spend anything, give anything, so that they can meet Jesus. So the question remains, what would you do to make sure those you love meet Jesus?

Go Forth. Keep Watch!

Ezekiel 33:1-9

1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head. 5 Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’ 7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.
